Learn More About Trial Attorney Bob Brown
Bob attended and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami. From there he left the state of Florida to attend Cornell University in western New York. After graduating with a BA in Philosophy in 1983, Bob returned to his home state to attend law school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Upon graduation with his JD in 1986, Bob began trying cases for one of the most esteemed local law firms in Miami. Over the next 15 years, Bob tried in excess of 100 cases to verdict.
In 2001 Bob decided that his true calling was to represent individuals who had been injured by the negligence and callousness of big business and others and that has been his focus ever since.
Since 2001, Bob has recovered millions of dollars for his clients. He was on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for the New Orleans based Chinese Drywall Litigation, where he participated in the very first trial before Judge Eldon Fallon, and helped in the negotiations that led to a nearly $1 Billion settlement with the German manufacturer that sourced Chinese Gypsum for its drywall boards. Thousands of homeowners benefitted from the settlement and were able to get their homes completely repaired.
An ardent and lifelong boater, Bob has enjoyed significant success in representing members of the South Florida community who have been injured while boating or participating in water activities. Most recently, Bob secured a multimillion dollar settlement for the family of Burton Stodghill, an orthopedic surgeon who drowned while scuba diving off Bimini in the Bahamas. The lawsuit, filed in state court in Florida, sought damages against the dive boat, dive shop and Bahamian resort at which the dive operation was based. After defeating defendants’ jurisdiction and release defenses, the defendants’ insurance companies paid all of their insurance money to avoid a trial on the merits.
Bob has also represented individuals in automobile, trucking and motorcycle accidents, medical malpractice, product liability and negligent security actions. He has recovered millions of dollars in settlements and jury trials for his clients.
Having spent the first third of his career as an insurance defense trial lawyer, Bob knows the other side of every case. He knows what they think, when they think it, and how to present the best case to a jury. He is also respected as a trial lawyer now that he is on the Plaintiff’s side. In addition to being a member of the American Association for Justice, the leading plaintiff’s trial lawyer organization, Bob is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a distinguished group of both Plaintiff and Defendant Trial lawyers. ABOTA is a bi-partisan group of lawyers working to preserve the right of individuals to a trial by jury and is frequently consulted by local judges. Bob is a former president of the Miami-Dade chapter, evidencing the esteem in which he is held by his peers.
